Location: The school is located in the residential area of the city of Morioka, which is, with the population of about three hundred thousand, the central city of Iwate Prefecture and the seat of the prefectural office. The school is about three kilometers from the campus of Iwate University, and it is within a convenient walking distance to the downtown Morioka. The Elementary School and the Kindergarten, which are its sister schools, are also within the walking distance of the school campus. School Goals: The goal of education is laid down in the basic concept of the school: 'Think Deeply, Work Heartily.' The images of the students that should be pursued in the process of their education are itemized as follows:
(1) to THINK: The students that think rationally and creatively with intellectual curiosity, and take pride in being independent
(2) HEART: The students with warm heart that are eager to make better friendships and communicate with others through affectionate words, and also love nature
(3) to WORK: The students that are active and persistent when they participate in classes and extramural activities and that create new things

Characteristics: The school was founded in 1947 as the affiliated junior high school to the Iwate Teachers College. The characteristics of the school are diversified. As a junior high school affiliated to the national university, the school has to provide the citizens with the ordinary compulsory education of three years, which is the last part of the nine-year-long compulsory education. As an affiliated school to the faculty of education, it also has to provide its students with the opportunity for teaching practices. On the other hand, the school is required to do researches on various aspects of educational practices so that it can contribute to the society in general as a representative and leading school of the area.
